I'm writing a novel. Its my fifth novel, and the third one I've written during
NaNoWriMo.
The first two NaNoWriMo novels I wrote were middle-grade adventure fantasies. I chose that genre because it would require no research, and because I've read so many middle-grade novels out loud to my children during homeschooling, I'm very familiar with the genre. Also because the NaNoWriMo goal is 50,000 words (during November) and that's a great length for a middle-grade novel.
This time I'm writing a mainstream novel about a homeschooling family in the 1990's. Though a lot of the philosophy is mine, the characters are all very fictional. It takes place at the time the mill in our small town was closed, and I was not even living here at that time. I wanted to use it for a setting because I feel the trauma this town went through should be documented and acknowledged.
I have no idea how people here will feel about it being about homeschooling as much as its about any other aspect of life in this town.
My NaNoWriMo Profile
I found
homeschoolers writing messages in the forums there! A lot of the participants are homeschooling teenagers.
