We finished reading Mr. Revere and I. We're starting another book about the Revolutionary War, My Brother Sam Is Dead by James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier. It was a Newbery Honor Book in 1974. It starts with the march of the British troops from Boston to Lexington and Concord, which is the exact same incident the other book ended with. I've read My Brother Sam Is Dead to myself before - but not to the kids. It is the most anti-war children's book I've ever read - as it delves into more of the suffering and hardships of war, and downplays the 'glory' of it. There's a sequel that explains how Sam dies. I see my local library has a copy - but I haven't read it yet.

Today I took Cimeron to Yreka for an eye appointment. She needs glasses but doesn't want to wear them. In fact she broke her last pair, intentionally. I'm getting her another pair to use in school but she swears she won't wear them and wants contac lenses. After the appointment I took her shopping. She bought a very nice outfit with a jacket at Penneys... and I bought four shirts and a raincoat for Aaron. He doesn't like clothes shopping but always seems grateful when I buy them for him.

I'm glad to see his reading is getting better. He's finally resigned to the idea that the only thing that will help is a lot of reading practice... so he's putting up less of a fuss about it lately.

We've been reading out of the Math For Smarty Pants book which is fun, but I still want to get a Saxon textbook for him.

We're still looking at bicycle websites - and today looked up 'roadmaster' which led us to some classic bike sites ... and that fits in with the bike book we're currently reading.
