Wow... I can't believe it has been two months since I've written in this blog! Time flies. We're at that point in the school year where the kids are getting tired of lessons. Fortunately when that happens we have the freedom to change how things are being done. Lately we've been using worksheets from the internet for spelling, and Cimeron's been keeping up with her measurement book for math. For Aaron, I've been working one-on-one with him a lot in both reading and math. We're reading and working our way through Math for Smarty Pants (see picture in the 2/27 blog entry). Keith is working with them on comprehension, social studies and science.
Cimeron has changed so much this school year it is scary, just about. She's gone from being a kid to being a teenager. Her 13th birthday was on April 20. Now she's spending a lot of time with teen friends, listening to CDs and chatting on internet message boards for fans of her favorite groups and singers.
Aaron's latest project has been keeping our car clean and organized. I would say he's fairly well obsessed with it right now. He thinks someday the car will be his.
He can read much better than he did a year ago - for which I am grateful. His ability to concentrate on academics is the pits - I have even started researching herbs to help with concentration. With all the controversy over Ritalin, I hesitate to consider using it, but I would love to find a herb like Ginseng or St. John's Wort that might help. That last herb, St. John's Wort, grows all over this region in the summertime so I could get plenty of it just for the picking. Another name for it is Klamath Weed. I'm not sure I want to try that though - it can cause sensitivity to light, and Aaron is out of doors a lot and has very light skin. I think Ginseng is my first choice. I'm probably going to try giving him a cup of tea an hour before lessons and see if it helps at all.
